Cupful of anger

I've neglected this blog shamefully and there is no excuse for it. I'm a little depressed lately now that Keith Olbermann's been fired and being snowed in is not doing anything for my disposition.

Having said that, I am now angry again at the latest disgusting and shameless attack upon women's rights by the GOP with the pretense of saving "babies". I say baby in quote marks because it takes a while for the zygote to grow into the beginnings of a person.

I am appalled with the coddling of pro-life crybabies who now have a legal leg to stand upon, to refuse to fill a valid prescription for birth control, instead  these assholes should  be given a swift kick in the ass and a cup of shut the fuck up and do your job.   I type this as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and a woman who doesn't want to have children.  I say this as a woman who supports the rights of other women to plan how many children they want, for the rights of all women everywhere to not be burdened with an unwanted child.

I write this with a shout-out to Angry Black Bitch . This is A Pro Choice Blog!

Arizona shooting

I wish  for a full recovery to Representatve Gabrielle Giffords, and the people who were injured or died because of the attack that happened when  Representative Giffords was meeting her constituents when she was shot and people died.   I also hope that those who died have gone to Heaven, and that any other victims will make a full recovery.

An open letter to Sarah Palin

9  January 2011
Dear  Governor Mrs. Palin:

Hi, we've never met, my name is Anastasia and I am your average liberal.  I'd like to point out a few things we want for this country that you might not agree with, but let's see if I can help.  I don't presume to speak for every liberal but I would like to share a few things.

As a liberal I want the following for America:
I want good schools for the children so we can compete in the information economy.  I want good schools for children so that my child can have a better life than I do .

I want us to recycle more and start having green jobs until humanity figures out what's going on  with global warming so we don't destroy animals and ourselves.    I think  it is practical to recycle and as Benjamin Franklin said, "Waste not, want not."

I want to be represented fairly, and so i vote. I have been registered since 1996 and have only missed a couple elections.   I also write to my representative, my senator and president with my computer and the Internet.

I want widespread broadband Internet access for the whole country,  and net neutrality so that information can be available widely and that people can communicate freely.

I want a secular government that does not favor any particular religion, in which the rights of the many are not trampled by the noisiest who lately seem to want government to favor evangelical Christianity.

I want freedom of religion  for every American to worship as they see fit.   I want freedom from religion as well for those of us who do not believe in God to not be coerced or harassed.  I am an atheist, I had attended a Baptist church but it was not for me.  I am an atheist and I am not an axe murderer, an addict and i am trying to be good without God, and there are people in every state and country doing this too.   We believe that what we put out into the world is what we get back, like karma or the Golden rule.

We want universal access to health care so that children don't die young from untreated pneumonia, nor that  adults suffer from undiagnosed diabetes or high blood pressure or cancer or any number of conditions.  I think it is a waste when kids like Kara Neumann die from untreated diabetes. nor should other children like Ava Worthington, Neil Beagley, Aaron Gregory Grady  have died from treatable illnesses.   We want all children to be happy, healthy, and able to follow their dreams of going to college, being a professional athlete, being a musician, owning a bakery, traveling, owning a Camaro or even to get married and have their own children.

I want food that has NOT  been tainted by fecal matter, E. Coli, salmonella and is not loaded with high fructose corn syrup or preservatives.

I want manufacturing jobs so that Americans can have good jobs that permit them to own their home, save for retirement and send their children to college without an outrageous debt load.

I want financial and bank regulations so that unscrupulous practices can be punished by law and that people won't lose everything due to shady banking practices, and that people understand hat they are getting when they get a loan or mortgage or a credit card.   I want  to avoid a disaster like we had in  2008  that brought the economy to its knees, and cost people their savings.  I want to avoid another Enron so that people who have their investment portfolios loaded with company stock do not lose everything when their company crashes and burns.

I want widely available birth control  and sex education to reduce the need for abortions, unwanted pregnancies,  to reduce the number of  neglected, unloved or abused children, and i want the adoption process streamlined to get foster children loving families.  I want abused wives and husbands to be able to leave thier abusive spouses and have a healthy, happy life free from fear, pain and misery.

I want gays and lesbians  to have the same chance that I do to get married and continue their families.   I believe that  it does not harm society to have more happy people and that it takes nothing from the lives and marriages of straight people for gays and lesbians to marry as they want.

I can't think of anything to add to this letter, but I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have about liberals, their beliefs and what we want for this country.    I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Anastasia

Some last thoughts on the lame-duck session

Harry Reid was right to admonish Reps. Cantor and Boehner for their whining about having to work two weeks before Christmas.

Maybe if ya didn't filibuster everything, including whether to have frenchfries or salad with your lunch you might have had that extra week off.  That's your own damn fault, you chose to have those filibusters.  As my Mom and Grandma would say, you made your bed, now lie in it.

The simple fact is that only kids and college students get long Christmas breaks, and that option is not available for many working people, doctors, police, firefighters, nurses, grocery workers, waiters and waitresses... the list goes on.  Teachers get some time off then but they have work like lesson planning and tests or papers to grade.   You chose to not do your job , with more than 80filibusters this year between campaigning, making commercials and God knows what else.

Disgraceful

It worries me that this country owes China a fuckload of money, a bunch of manufacturing has gone there and now the Chinese kids are kicking the asses  of American kids in math and science.     Props to the Chinese for what they've done, but how we can blather on about how America is so great when we keep getting our fat asses handed to us?

How can we continue to be great when so many of our people are out of work, can't afford doctors and food and rent?  How can we continue to be awesome when our scientific progress is hampered by religious fanatics who give women shit for buying birth control, but when they get sick everything the hospital can do is what they want.

How can we be incredible when we take our teachers for granted every chance we get? We give them shit because Lil Brayden and Alyvia can't read although their parents plop them in front of the TV  as soon as they get home, and don't help them with homework ?

How can we make any progress when we insist on long summer breaks when the whole world has longer school years than we do?  Long summers breaks because it's a "tradition" ... a tradition that dates back to the days when most everyone had a small farm. My Nana's parents had such a farm, but as for ME i have yet to try to make a small garden in a house my parents have owned for 21 years. And it's an outdated tradition  that can make things difficult for modern working parents who don't get two and three months off in the summer to watch their children

How can things be copacetic when we refuse to take a stand against outfits like BP who,  when their workers die by the dozens, when oil spews into the sea, and they use every tactic available to wiggle out of responsibility and cleaning up the MESS they made?   How can we look at ourselves in the mirror when we won't do simple things to help ourselves like recycling, and insisting that we give American children am excellent education?
